If you were in a Jury in which everyone else has voted to convict an 18-year old female offender on whom a toy gun was found following a search, after the security camera showed that she shoplifted a lipstick. The camera also showed that at no time during or after committing the act was the toy gun taken out or brandished at the departmental shop. Would you rather join the others or would you not? If you would vote to convict, what would your reasons be and if you would rather vote to release the accused, what would be your reasons? Make your case for release or convict, based on some theoretical viewpoints reviewed in chapters 4-9 of our textbook: Schmalleger: Criminology Today.
